The
Mystery of the Dead Sea Scrolls |
|
|
|
This
blockbuster exhibition featured twelve Dead Sea scroll
fragments, and many antiquities from the Israel Antiquities
Authority, along with rare books from the Library of Congress
and the New York Public Library. For the Fine Arts Museums
of San Francisco installation, the exhibition was expanded
to include paintings, works on paper, decorative arts,
textiles, and antiquities from the Museums collection
that illuminated the biblical stories found in the scrolls. |

A
Feast for the Eye: Food in Art |
|
|
|
The
permanent collections of the Fine Arts Museums of San
Francisco were the basis for this thematic exhibition
that traced the use of food as a subject in art. The exhibition
showcased art in all media, placing it, wherever possible,
into its historical context and exploring the history,
culture, and meaning behind it. |

Reflections:
Fashion, Dolls, & the Art of Growing Up |
|
|
|
Over
40 costumes from the collections of the American Textile
History Museum were combined with dolls from national
and regional museums and private collections to tell the
story of little girls growing up. Using artifacts from
the early 19th century to the present, this exhibit juxtaposed
traditional female clothing, playthings and occupations
with objects interpreting evolving codes of behavior. |
